A New Lycoris Recoil Anime Has Been Announced

Aniplex has made an exciting announcement for fans of the Lycoris Recoil anime series. The company has revealed that the girls-with-guns action anime is inspiring a new production, although the format of the project has not been revealed yet. The news comes with the tagline "The story of the two will not end."

The original Lycoris Recoil anime series aired for 13 episodes from July to September 2022, and takes place in a world where a secret organization known as DA (Direct Attack) uses teenage female agents called Lycoris to maintain peace by stopping crimes before they happen. The series focuses on Chisato and Takina, two of the strongest Lycoris agents working at a DA branch called LycoReco, which doubles as both a cafe and a provider of various services.

The Lycoris Recoil anime was a collaboration between some of the top names in the industry. Shingo Adachi, known for his work as character designer on Sword Art Online and WORKING!!, served as director and series composer. Asaura, the author of Shousetsu Knights of Sidonia: Kitto Arifureta Koi, was responsible for the story draft, while Imigimuru, the mangaka of This Art Club Has a Problem!, handled the character design. The animation production company for the series was A-1 Pictures.

The talented staff for the anime included Yuusuke Maruyama, who served as assistant director and was previously the opening director and storyboarder for Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon: The Second Act. Kenji Sawada, the co-main animator of Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie, was the weapon and action supervisor, while Yumiko Yamamoto, the co-character designer of Sword Art Online Alicization War of Underworld, was the sub-character designer. Shuuhei Mutsuki, known for his work on Three Leaves, Three Colors, was the music composer.

The talented cast of the anime included Chika Anzai as Chisato, Shion Wakayama as Takina, Ami Koshimizu as Mizuki Nakahara, Misaki Kuno as Kurumi, and Kousuke Sakaki as Mika. Since its premiere, Lycoris Recoil has inspired a range of spin-off content, including a manga adaptation, spin-off manga, spin-off light novel, and stage play.

The show received a great deal of attention and recognition for its quality, including being voted as Anime Trending's Anime of the Season and Favorite Action or Adventure title during the Summer 2022 season. Additionally, the chemistry between the lead characters Chisato and Takina led to them becoming the Favorite Couple Ship of Summer 2022. The anime also caught the attention of Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima, who frequently tweeted about the show and even provided a quote and his face for the obi of the light novel. Kojima also retweeted the announcement video of the new production.
